A Danville alderman thinks the city needs to reconsider its policy regarding video gaming machines at businesses and private clubs. The city council earlier discussed charging a fee for each machine, but has not approved one. Alderman Tom Stone thinks the city should charge a fee, but some other council members say they do not want to hurt local organizations – such as the Knights of Columbus — which have the machines.
A city council committee discussed the fee during a meeting last night, including the fact that if Governor JB Pritzker approves a gambling expansion bill those locations would be allowed to have six machines instead of five.
Also during last night’s meeting it was decided the city will delay collecting a new 1-percent hike in the hotel-motel tax. The City Council approved the hike earlier, but the city did not officially notify the businesses about the change so some have complained about it. So instead of going into effect May 1st, the city will send out a letter to the businesses saying the hike will be effective June 10th instead.
