The strong thunderstorms which have been sweeping across our region have left many homes and businesses in the dark. As of 6:15 p.m. Sunday (June 30th, 2019) Ameren reported hundreds of customers were without power in Champaign and Vermilion Counties. Crews were working to restore power as more storms moved through.
Ameren reported more than 630 of its customers in the Danville and Westville areas were without power (as of shortly after 6:00 p.m. Sunday). Over 150 customers were in the dark in the Oakwood area, over 50 in the Rossville and Hoopeston areas, and more than 100 in Rantoul.
Champaign-Urbana was hard hit with power outages affecting more than 5,000 Ameren customers, and nearly 1,000 were without power Sunday evening in the Savoy area. More than 600 Ameren customers were also waiting for power to be restored in the Arcola and Tuscola areas (as of early Sunday evening).
Statewide, throughout its service territory, Ameren Illinois Power Company said 11,232 of its 1.2 million customers were without power as more storms moved in Sunday evening.
