The Catlin American Legion will be re-opening Thursday, even though all repairs from a weekend break-in are not expected to be completed by then. Mike Doggett, Vice Commander of the Catlin Legion, says they decided to open because they do not want the burglary to deter serving Veterans.
‘’We’re not going to let them (the burglars) win,’’ said Mike’s wife Debbie Doggett. She serves as the kitchen manager and is a bartender at the post. The Catlin American Legion will be open for its regular ‘Cheeseburger Night’ with serving starting at 5:00 p.m. Thursday (July 18, 2019). They hope to make up for some of the loss from the weekend burglary.
The interior of the Catlin American Legion was heavily ransacked. Burglars also struck a restaurant – High On The Hog – which is located across the street from the Legion.
Mike Hartshorn, Chief Investigator for the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department, told VermilionCountyFirst.com News that some evidence has been recovered that will hopefully help identify those responsible.
