After two months of things going in the negative direction, the area’s jobs picture showed a positive increase from May to June, as well as looking much better compared to June of last year.
In Vermilion County, the unemployment rate fell from 6.1% in May to 5.5% in June. Vermilion County’s rate stood at 7.2% in June of last year. This is actually the lowest June unemployment rate for Vermilion County since prior to the pandemic, when it was 4.6% in June of 2019.
The City of Danville’s jobless rate dropped slightly, from 6.6% in May to 6.5% in June. Danville’s rate came in at 8.1 % in June of 2021.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the latest numbers have not been seasonally adjusted.
Also in Vermilion County, total non-farm employment showed an increase of 400 jobs overall compared to last June. Looking at more specific categories; Leisure and Hospitality, Construction, and Wholesale Trade all showed gains of 100 jobs when comparing June of this year to June of last year. There were no Vermilion County sectors with employment declines from one year ago.
