New numbers are out from Balloons Over Vermilion showing the attendance for that event last weekend exceeded 24-thousand. It marks a 20-percent increase since the inaugural Balloons Over Vermilion in 2016.
Over 11-thousand children attended the two-day event which organizers say once again proves it is all about the kids.
Every year Balloons Over Vermilion adds something new and listens for ways to improve the event, according to Co-Chairs Jim Anderson and Pat O’Shaughnessy. This year ‘Touch a Truck’ was added in the Kid Zone giving kids a chance to see heavy equipment up close – including tractors, fire trucks, and kids could even take a spin in an Ameren lift truck. A third tethered balloon was added so more people could experience flying in a hot air balloon. And parking and traffic patterns were adjusted to accommodate the record-breaking number of vehicles at both the Vermilion Regional Airport and shuttle bus lots.
Balloons Over Vermilion says it wants to thank the over 600 sponsors and volunteers who made the 2019 festival a record-breaking success.
Mark your calendars now for Balloons Over Vermilion 2020 on July 10th and 11th at the Vermilion Regional Airport.
