Jeremy Swerling, the maestro of the Danville Symphony Orchestra, will celebrate 25 years as conductor and music director during the DSO’s 2019-20 season.
The DSO has scheduled four concerts to celebrate the maestro’s silver anniversary. Says DSO Executive Director Cindy Nacco, “The concerts will offer an eclectic range of music that will delight audiences who appreciate the high-quality performances that Mr. Swerling has brought to our community for the past 25 years.”
The first concert, on Sat., Nov. 2, will feature Rachmaninoff, Piano Concerto No. 2 with Van Cliburn prize winner, Rachel Cheung and Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 4 the “Italian”. Maestro Swerling says, “These great works are a reprise of the first concert I conducted here 25 years ago. My first concert included the Italian Symphony and a piano concerto and I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to revisit it with our audience after all these years.”
The Dec. 7 concert will be a Christmas tribute to philanthropist Julius W. Hegeler II and is simply titled “Julius.” The symphony will perform alone and with the Danville Community Chorus, directed by Marty Lindvahl as well as the high school’s Delegation Choir directed by Jeff Davis.
While the first two concerts will be held in the Dick Van Dyke Theater, the third concert will bring an altogether new experience for DSO audiences. On Feb. 29, the DSO will perform in Danville’s Palmer Arena in a performance titled Music City Hitmakers. This concert will unite Nashville song writers who will sing and play their music with Maestro Swerling’s orchestra for an evening of country music with a symphonic slant.
The fourth concert will return to the Dick Van Dyke Theater on April 25 for “Movie Night,” with the Symphony regaling audiences with music from the greatest films of all time.
Along with the four concerts, Maestro Swerling and the DSO will continue their annual tradition of providing educational concerts for children. In partnership with Danville School District 118, the DSO will perform twice on May 7 and include a community chorus as well as a County-wide children’s chorus.
With the announcement of the new 2019-20 season, the DSO will begin issuing subscriptions to season-ticket holders with discounts available until Oct 1st.
The DSO is a 501 c 3 organization with a 52-year tradition of bringing quality musical performances to the City of Danville, Vermilion County, and the East Central Illinois region.
