It’s a Friday evening of fun in Downtown Danville, as this month’s First Fridays event is the Back-to-School Bash. Vermilion will be closed from Seminary to North Street 5 to 9 PM Friday evening. The closing starts at Seminary because the Public Library is heavily involved; as they’ll have their “Stranger Things” exhibit. Assistant Director Jessica Augustson says, they’ll also be doing their Stranger Things fan event for a second night, 5 to 9 this Saturday.

The Danville Public Library “Stranger Things” fan event will be both 5 to 9 PM Friday and Saturday evenings.
AUDIO: Stranger Things is the hot TV show on Netflix these days. Most of us here at the library are fans. The TV show is set in the early-mid 80s. And so it brings with it a whole bunch of nostalgia, and an opportunity for us to really play, and dig our teeth into the whole vibe of the TV series.
Then, as Danville Community Relations Administrator Ashton Greer told Tommy B on D102’s “The Big Show;” there will be lots to see and do at the Friday Back-to-School Bash, and to help you prepare for the school year, as you head further down Vermilion.
AUDIO: If you want to pick up a book bag full of school supplies, but you also want to get some new clothes for school; there’s a clothing giveaway. There’s an opportunity to sign up if you need help purchasing shoes. There’s a sidewalk chalk competition, touch-a-truck as you make your way down Vermilion Street. And then at Temple Plaza there is Summer Sounds; and food trucks and a photo booth.
And for those who really enjoyed a little street hockey during the Sports and Brews event earlier this summer, Danville Youth Hockey will be back this Friday as well.

Danville Youth Hockey, a very popular attraction during the Downtown Danville “Sports and Brews” event earlier this summer, will be making a return visit for the Back-to-School Bash.
Meanwhile, it’s a very busy time all around for Ashton Greer, as the business she has established with her mom Shawn Davis will be opening its doors soon. Greer says the First Place Co-Working Space in Downtown Danville has four tenants ready to share resources when the facility opens this fall.
AUDIO: Four organizations are renting the space. And so those four organizations; hopefully they can work together and their businesses can support each other. But also they’re also sharing space, they’re sharing utilities, they’re sharing resources; printing, internet. And so it cuts down on their expenses, while giving them a great location to operate from, right in the heart of downtown.
The address will be 137 North Vermilion.
