The Danville Planning and Zoning Commission has taken action to prepare for something that could happen in the future.
Should the State of Illinois open the door for additional gaming function licenses: such as in the categories of sports books or video gaming, or other new or expanded gaming activities; the city wants to have the zoning in place allowing Danville to, not be obligated to apply, but simply have the option to apply.
In a nutshell, anything in Danville labeled I-2, for industrial zoning; or B-3, for general commercial zoning, would be permitted to have gaming functions within its established “table of uses.”
City of Danville Corporation Counsel James Simon says this is not tied in any way to how successful the under construction Golden Nugget Casino turns out to be. Instead, it’s a matter of keeping all options open for down the road.
AUDIO: It is in anticipation that the Illinois Gaming Board or the General Assembly may add to or expand gaming activity; permissible, highly regulated gaming activity; within the state. Danville wants to be ready, if it chooses to.
The Danville City Council will most likely consider this action at their August 16th meeting.
