Danville Police say no one was seriously hurt in some shootings which occurred over the weekend. Three people were shot, including a man and woman who suffered gunshot wounds to their legs when shots were fired into a home in the 300 block of Alexander Street.
Police Commander Joshua Webb says officers were called to the home on Alexander Street around 4:45 Sunday morning (July 28, 2019). The victims told police they heard multiple gunshots and were struck by bullets fired through their home. Both victims were taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening wounds. There is no suspect or vehicle description information available for this case according to Commander Webb’s release to VermilionCountyFirst.com News.
In another incident Danville Police responded to the area of the 500 block of Plum Street for a report of shots fired around 5:00 a.m. Sunday. Upon arrival they located a 27-year-old Danville man who had a gunshot wound to a shoulder. The victim told police he heard shots outside his home and was shot when he looked out a window.
A witness said she saw two black males in dark colored hooded sweatshirts shooting toward the home. Then, the witness said another black male came from behind the house and started shooting back at the suspects. All the suspects fled from the area and no arrests have been made in the case. The victim suffered a non life-threatening wound to his shoulder.
Danville Police were also called twice to the area of the 1300 block of May Street early Sunday on reports of shots fired. A 28-year-old man told police he was standing in his driveway around 1:00 a.m. when he heard several shots. Officers located multiple bullet holes in the siding of the man’s home. Then shortly after 3:00 a.m. Sunday police were called back to the same home on a report of more shots being fired. In the second call to the home the victim told police he saw a white pickup truck fleeing from the scene. In the first shooting the victim said he saw a dark colored SUV fleeing the scene. There were no injuries in the May Street shootings.
Police are investigating to see whether the shootings may be related. Anyone who has information that might assist police in probing these shootings is asked to call Danville Police at (217) 431-2250, or Vermilion County Crime Stoppers at (217) 446-TIPS.
Danville Police also responded to several other calls of shots fired over the weekend – but no one was hurt in those other incidents. And police say oftentimes the incidents do not actually involve gunshots.
