There’s a special gospel concert and food drive this Saturday at Freedom Missionary Baptist Church for the nearby Danville Rescue Mission. Event director Ken McCray says the Danville Rescue Mission has been working to get citizens on their own with employment readiness training and contact with employers. And sometimes it’s just the first step of giving them a place to go. So this “Gospel Explosion” non-perishable food drive will also help to feed those who are currently residing at the mission. And as McCray says, they will be being in gospel performers from all over.

AUDIO: One from Tyler, Texas; the others coming from Indianapolis and from Terre Haute. Another particular artist coming from Bloomington, Illinois. So in that process of that concert, we’re collecting the non-perishables, because it’s (Freedom Missionary Baptist Church) right behind the (Danville Rescue) Mission. So they’ll just transport those things over to the mission, to be able to feed and supply food for those who are residing there.
Doors open at 4 PM, with the event starting at 5 PM Saturday. The Freedom Missionary Baptist Church is at 811 Martin Street in Danville, and the Danville Rescue Mission right behind it at 834 North Bowman. Tickets are 15 dollars, but just 10 dollars if you arrive with a non-perishable food donation.
