If you’ve passed through Sunset Memorial Park on North Vermilion in Danville recently, you’ve probably noticed that two new swans have been welcomed to the Swan Pond. Sunset’s Keri Darby says staff input was sought on giving the swans brand new names.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: We had an inner-company poll. And actually Julie Holt, one of the employees here; she decided on the names Charlie and Flo, after Charles and Florence Darby, who purchased the cemetery back in the 60s.
For the previous 35 years, the swans at Sunset had been named Joe and Nellie. Nellie passed away earlier this year; and due to swans’ usual tendencies, it was best for Joe to be sent to a forever home at a Swan farm; and then welcome in the new couple of Charlie and Flo.
