While last month the jobs picture in the area showed a slight move in the positive direction, this month it shows a move in the negative direction; although still much better than last year’s picture.
In Vermilion County, the unemployment rate rose from 5.5% in June to 5.7% in July. Vermilion County’s rate stood at 6.8% in July of last year.
The City of Danville’s jobless rate rose from 6.5% in June to 6.8% in July. Danville’s rate came in at 8.4% in July of 2021.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the latest numbers have not been seasonally adjusted.
Also in Vermilion County, total non-farm employment showed an increase of 300 jobs overall compared to last July. Looking at more specific categories; Manufacturing, Leisure and Hospitality, Wholesale Trade, and Other Services all showed gains of 100 jobs when comparing July of this year to July of last year. Government jobs were down 100 when comparing July of 2022 to July of 2021.
