This year’s Labor Day celebrations attracted large crowds in Danville, Westville and Hoopeston. And in Westville even bigger crowds are expected next year when the town marks its 150th birthday.
Darren Van Duyn is a Lion’s Club member who serves as chairman of Westville’s Labor Day Parade…
{AUDIO: ‘’It’s chaotic, but it works. You know it takes a long time to put this thing together, and we’re this year at over 130 units. And so, the good thing is it’s moving down the road and it looks real great.’’

In addition to the parade, concert, amusement rides and other attractions in Westville over the holiday weekend, Van Duyn says the Lions Club helps in other ways…
{AUDIO: ‘’We’re a part of the world’s largest service organization. And we do any kind of humanitarian needs that our community needs. We also service eyeglass and hearing needs. And then our international organization has also taken on the fight against diabetes, childhood cancer and our environment.’’}

And Van Duyn added it’s easy to get involved if you would like to join the club…
{AUDIO: ‘’We meet the second and fourth Wednesdays at Izzys here in town. (So) you’re welcome to come out to a meeting and check things out, or come see us at our next event. We have Glo Bingo coming up October 1st at the Fireside Event Center. So, they’re welcome to come in and check us out and just talk to a Lion and we’d be happy to bring them home.’’}

Van Duyn was interviewed by Neuhoff Media’s Bill Pickett as Monday’s parade was getting underway.
