Illinois State Police are mourning the death of a trooper who was shot while executing a search warrant in East St. Louis Friday (August 23, 2019). The victim is identified as 33-year-old South SWAT Trooper Nicholas Hopkins.
‘’Trooper Hopkins laid down his life while protecting the citizens of this state,’’ said Illinois State Police Acting Director Brendan Kelly. ‘’We are respectfully asking the public to respectfully give consideration to the family of Trooper Hopkins and the Illinois State Police while we continue to grieve and work through this tragedy,’’ added Director Kelly.
Trooper Hopkins was a ten-year veteran of the Illinois State Police.
