Domestic Violence Awareness Month begins on Saturday. And all through October, Crosspoint Human Services is asking you to help with their Supply Drive. They are asking for donations of everyday items for both adults and children such as toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner, diapers, canned chicken and tuna, nail clippers, and more. As Cher Pollock from the Crosspoint Leadership Team explains, when individuals have escaped from a dangerous domestic situation, the first priority is safety. But once they catch their breath, they think of all the things they don’t have.
AUDIO: Getting them to safety, and any children or family members that may have been subjected to the violence in the environment to safety, is our number one priority. Then once they’re here, and they’re safe, and they can take a few deep breaths; then we can begin exploring all of their other needs.
The Supply Drive is sponsored by Vermilion County State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy. Purple donation boxes can be found outside Country Financial locations in Danville, Georgetown, Fairmount, and Hoopeston. Anyone that needs Crosspoint Human Services can come to Crosspoint at the Y at 201 North Hazel, call them at 217-446-1217, or call their Domestic Violence Hotline at 217-443-5568.
