Those who love star gazing can stop by the Kennekuk County Park Environmental Education Center this Friday Evening September 30th for both some fun and education. You can bring your telescopes to join in viewing the moons of Jupiter, the rings of Saturn, and more. Cookies and refreshments will be available. Speakers will include astronomer Dr. Carl Wenning, Laura Danzl from the Vermilion County Conservation District, and also Father Timothy Sauppe from St. Mary’s Church in Westville. His main point will be about light pollution, and how we need to never take seeing and enjoying the stars for granted.
AUDIO: To be proactive for the future of how to prevent light pollution. Children growing up, there was some statistic, 50 percent of them growing up today will never see the Milky Way. Light pollution is growing more and more, especially now with LEDs. People think that, “LEDs are cheaper, we should get more.” It’s a matter of conscientiously lighting the dark, and lighting it only when we need it.
Friday evening’s program at the Kennekuk Environmental Education Center begins at 7 PM.
