THE FOLLOWING IS AN ILLINOIS STATE POLICE RELEASE
CHAMPAIGN – Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) Zone 5 is investigating an in-custody death of an inmate at the Champaign County Jail at the request of the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office.
During the morning hours of October 13, 2022, Champaign County Correctional Officers located a female inmate that had fell to the ground. Jail personnel activated EMS and preformed lifesaving measures. The female was transported by ambulance to an area hospital where she was pronounced deceased. An autopsy is pending, and the cause of death is unknown at this time.
The Champaign County Coroner’s Office is assisting in the investigation. The investigation is on-going and no additional information is being released at this time
