The Danville High School Music Department is getting set to host the school’s 46th Annual Viking Invitational Marching Band Contest on Saturday (September 28th). DHS Band Director Ryan Krapf says there will be eleven bands involved this year from across the state…
{‘’The first band is on at 3:45. There’s a lot of local bands – like Bismarck-Henning, Rossville-Alvin will be here. We’ve got Urbana and Champaign Central. Hoopeston will be here – Watseka. So, they all come down here and we have a judging panel of ten judges,’’ said Krapf. ‘’They get judged in music. They get judged in marching, both individual and as an ensemble. Then we have some general effect categories as to how the overall effect of the show is coming off to the audience.’’
Krapf described the show that Danville’s band is doing this year….
{‘’We’re doing Alien Abduction, or it’s more reminiscent of Star Trek and how the Borg come and assimilate earth. Right now we’re working on the portion of the show where they actually do the costume change, where they have a different costume on underneath their marching band jacket. And it’s been a lot of fun trying to get that to come to be. There’s a lot of wheels that have to work in motion to make that happen,’’ said Krapf.
The Danville High School Marching Band will be performing in exhibition starting at 7:15 p.m. Saturday. Krapf says this year there are 64 students in Danville’s band. They include 40 in the wind section, 13 in percussion, 12 in color guard, and 2 drum majors.
