Danville mayor Rickey Williams, Jr says progress continues to be made at the northwest corner of Gilbert and Fairchild. With the relocation of Kirchner Building Services to the site of the old Goodwill building plus much of the corner, the city has been purchasing properties to make room, forcing some residents to have to move. As the purchase of additional real estate came before the City Council Public Works Committee Tuesday evening, Mayor Williams mentioned that new places to live have been found for some who were very vocal about the situation. The mayor says, Veterans living on that corner have been able, as the Council suggested, to seek assistance from Veterans organizations.

AUDIO: And many times folks have found themselves in situations that they actually like even more than where they were living. So far it’s been a win-win for everyone. And we’re for that, and we’re thankful for the owners and for the tenants working with us. And I’m proud of my team for doing everything they can to make sure that our residents have a good quality of life.
It was also mentioned during Tuesday’s committee meeting that the city’s cost for Liability and Worker’s Compensation insurance is increasing by $409,000. Mayor Williams says it’s a tough pill to swallow, but not necessarily a surprise.
AUDIO: Unfortunately our utilization rate has been more than we’ve paid for several years now. So it’s understandable that the increase has come. (question: Does this fall under adjustment on the new budget or did you plan for this?) We’ve planned for some increase. I’m not sure that it was that substantial, so we will need to make some adjustments. But I don’t see it having a major impact on the overall proposal.
The committee approved an agreement with Illinois Counties Risk Management Trust, through Loman-Ray Insurance Group.
