Danville Light Opera is getting ready to present The Hunchback of Notre Dame at the Fischer Theater this weekend. Director Paul Strain joined Laura Williams on 1490 WDAN’s Community Connection program, giving us a preview of some of the stars of the show.
AUDIO: Grant Morenz, who is out of Champaign, playing Dom Claude Frollo, he’s an amazing actor. We have a couple new faces. Our Esmeralda is a young lady named Carrisa Yau, who is amazing and is just going to blow everybody away. Our Captain Phoenus is Sam Gegg, also out of Champaign; has a fabulous voice. Quasimodo is Jerry Strain.
Strain says if you are looking for a duplicate of the Disney cartoon version of the Hunchback of Notre Dame; some things will be similar, and some, definitely not.
AUDIO: The musical has the Disney songs in it, so it’s got these lovely soaring melodies and beautiful orchestrations. But it is not the Disney cartoon. It follows the Disney cartoon story fairly closely; the ending this very different. There’s just more meat for the characters in the stage version that we’re doing.
Show times are Friday and Saturday night at 7:30, Sunday afternoon at 2:30. Go to atthefischer.com ahead of time for $22 tickets, or you can purchase tickets at the door for $25.
