Danville Police are reminding everyone to be safe and avoid tragic, preventable accidents this Thanksgiving Eve. The night before Thanksgiving is commonly called “Blackout Wednesday” due to the amount of people and students back in town for the holiday and wanting to meet up with friends. Quite often, the drinking situation becomes excessive, and the roads become very dangerous.
Danville Deputy Police Chief Terry McCord says the number one piece of advice is “plan ahead,” and make sure you are in a safe situation with a designated driver.
AUDIO: There’s nothing wrong with coming back to town and celebrating with friends; and, you know, reuniting. But we’ve really got to be responsible, and if people are out drinking they can’t be driving. I don’t know that I can give any better advice than just plan ahead and be smart about it.
Deputy Chief McCord says thanks to their grant from the Illinois State Department of Transportation, they will have some extra patrols out and about.
