(Above, L to R) Danville’s three mayoral candidates: Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr; Jackie Vinson; Jacob Lane
With Jacob Lane having officially filed to run for mayor prior to Monday’s filing deadline at the Danville Election Commission, there are indeed three mayoral candidates for next spring’s municipal election. Lane, a Danville native and Schlarman High School graduate, is a political consultant and free lance journalist by trade. And he views himself as the alternate choice.
AUDIO: I think the people are going to have three different perspectives on how to run this city. I believe I’m the only outsider in the race, but I think the people are going to have three very different opinions, and very different views, of what’s needed in this city.
Challenger and Vermilion Housing Authority Executive Director Jackie Vinson says having three candidates will definitely make it interesting.
AUDIO: I think competition is good and it’s healthy. And there’s nothing more we could ask as citizens but to have choice in who’s going to be the leader of our local government. So I think it’s a great thing.
Incumbent Danville Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr also took the positive side in this three-way race. Saying the Danville mayor’s job is now more attractive, and it’s great to have interested parties.
AUDIO: I’m very proud to see so many people interested in helping lead our community. I think because we’ve done such a great job the last several years, and we’ve put the city in better financial footing, it’ll make it easier for someone else to help lead the community. And so I’m glad that people recognize the great strides we’ve made in the last couple years, and want to be a part of that.
Next spring’s municipal election will be Tuesday, April 4th.
