A promotion in the Danville Police Department occurred Wednesday morning (Nov 30) before a packed house in the Danville City Council Chambers. Officer Christopher Comrie was promoted to Sergeant, and sworn in by Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr.
Sergeant Comrie is a Danville native and 2008 graduate of Danville High School. He says early on at DHS, he knew he wanted to be a police officer, when he spoke with his uncle, Officer Jim Comrie.
AUDIO: Probably my freshman year, I had a conversation with my uncle, who was also a police officer with Danville and then moved on to ISP. It just sounded like something that I wanted to do. My family’s all firefighters, so I kind of jumped ship on that one. But I don’t regret it at all.
Danville Police Chief Christopher Yates addressed the audience in the Danville City Council Chambers about Sergeant Comrie’s leadership qualities prior to his receiving of the Danville Police Sergeant Pin.
Sergeant Comrie also says, the thought of being a sergeant entered his mind early in his career.
AUDIO: Just something that I wanted to do; be a leader on the department.
This coming April will mark ten years that Sergeant Comrie’s been with the Danville Police. Chief Christopher Yates told the audience, and us afterwards, that Comrie has shown signs all along of being a leader.
AUDIO: Whether it’s six years, ten years, or 20 years, it’s the quality of the time that you spend here, and what you do with it, is what makes you capable and having enough experience to hold a position of leadership on the department. And he’s definitely made very efficient use of his time here.
Chief Yates also mentioned that four new Danville Police Officers are scheduled to be sworn in on January 4th, which will bring the department’s total to 68 officers. He plans to meet the goal of 70 in time for next May’s Police Academy class.
