Congressman John Shimkus has announced that Catlin has been awarded a $500-thousand dollar USDA Rural Development Grant to help complete construction of a wastewater treatment plant.
The project will bring Catlin into compliance with Illinois EPA regulations and alleviate existing health and sanitary concerns.
‘’Grants from the USDA make necessary development projects and equipment upgrades possible for rural communities,’’ said Representative Shimkus. He added his office can assist communities with rural development grants as well as other federal grants.
In March, Congressman Shimkus and Doug Wilson, the Illinois Director of the USDA Rural Development Program, stopped by Catlin to announce the community would receive $10.3 million dollars in federal funds to help renovate the community’s wastewater treatment plant.
