A Danville City Council committee is recommending the full council approve contracts for the demolition of twenty-nine structures. Six others are being demolished by city crews. Three of those are already down.
Public Works Director Carl Carpenter says the demolitions will be funded with Community Development Block Grant funds. All total $280-thousand dollars will be spent to demolish the structures which are located at scattered locations around the city. All of them are located south of Voorhees Street, and Carpenter says all sites are expected to be cleared by mid-February.
This abandoned laundromat along East Main Street in Danville is one of the buildings scheduled to come down.
Carpenter says by hiring companies to handle those demolitions it will allow city crews to work on some other demolitions.
