The Vermilion County Board meets in a reorganizational session Monday evening (December 5, 2022). The meeting starting at 6:00 p.m. at the Vermilion County Administration Building at 201 North Vermilion is to reorganize following the recent election.
Items on the agenda include drawing lots for the length of terms, election of a County Board Chairman and Vice-Chairman and new committee assignments.
The Board is also scheduled to vote on a proposal to rename the Vermilion County Administration Building to the ‘’Joseph G. Cannon Building’’. The change is being made in honor of ‘’Uncle Joe’’ Cannon, who was a Vermilion County resident and former Speaker of the United States House of Representatives from 1903-1911.
The Property Committee of the County Board earlier received a petition containing numerous signatures of citizens who requested the building be renamed. Joseph G. Cannon represented this area in the House of Representatives for nearly five decades.
