Governor JB Pritzker signed a House Bill Tuesday containing a series of amendments to the Safe-T Act. They are designed to clarify changes made in the Act which was approved last year.
Meanwhile a lawsuit challenging the law is now scheduled to be heard December 20th….just 11 days before the new law is to take effect.
Danville Police Chief Christopher Yates (shown here) reacted to the delay in the court hearing….
[AUDIO: {‘’I was a little bit disappointed because I knew time was going to be rushed on whatever the ruling was determined up there in that court,’’ said Chief Yates during an interview with VermilionCountyFirst.com News. ‘’However, for it being the 20th, and certain holidays, we’ll see how it goes,’’] added Chief Yates.
Talking to Neuhoff Media after Tuesday night’s Danville City Council meeting, Chief Yates added:
[AUDIO: {‘’We’re not sure how it’s going to turn out, and we hope logic will prevail, and we’ll still be given the tools to be able to protect our citizens. We’ll figure it out,’’] added Yates.
The Vermilion County State’s Attorney, Jacqueline Lacy, has been one of several prosecutors around the state who have raised concerns about earlier changes in the SAFE-T Act legislation.
