THE FOLLOWING IS A VERMILION COUNTY STATE’S ATTORNEY’S OFFICE RELEASE
On December 8, 2022 Jason Latonis pleaded guilty to Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Deliver, a Class X Felony. A Class X Felony is punishable from 6 to 30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections with 18 months of mandatory supervised release (i.e. parole).
Circuit Judge Charles Hall sentenced Latonis upon his plea of guilty to 12 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections with 18 months of mandatory supervised release.
In April, 2022, the defendant was found at a crash scene on I–74 by the Illinois State Police. Located in the defendant’s car was over 100 grams of methamphetamine. The methamphetamine was packaged into four equally sized bags. Illinois State Police contacted the Vermilion County Metropolitan Enforcement Group who joined in the investigation. The defendant confessed that he had just bought the drugs from a known dealer, and was on his way to meet another dealer to split up the drugs and sell them. The defendant has two prior methamphetamine related convictions.
“This prosecution was made possible by the quick and effective coordinated response by Illinois State Police and the Vermilion County Metropolitan Enforcement Group. We are thankful for the hard work of VMEG and all the efforts taken in order to ensure dangerous drugs and drug dealers are removed from our community,” stated State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy.
