UPDATE: Judge Ben Dyer has sworn in Stacy Bennett to complete the final two weeks of her husband State Senator Scott Bennett’s current term. Both State Rep Carol Ammons and Champaign Township Supervisor Andy Quanstrom have expressed interest in filling Bennett’s upcoming two year Illinois State Senate Term.
State Representative Carol Ammons of Urbana is seeking to fill the 52nd District Illinois Senate seat left vacant by the death of Senator Scott Bennett. Ammons says while she is deeply saddened by the passing of her colleague and friend, it is with deep reverence for the work that she and Senator Bennett did together that she now seeks the appointment. She delivered that message in a letter to Champaign County Democratic Party Chairman Mike Ingram and Sandy Lawlyes, Chairwoman of the Vermilion County Democratic Party.
‘’In honor of the late Senator Bennett, and to address the needs of the 52nd District, it is paramount that his successor be someone with a proven track record of passing legislation that addresses the needs of the people and institutions in the 52nd District,’’ said Ammons letter.
‘’I look forward to sharing my record, which mirrors my senators, in a transparent and public process,’’ she added.
Ammons has represented the 103 Illinois House District since January of 2015.
