Vermilion County Sheriff Pat Hartshorn has confirmed that about ten inmates at the Public Safety Building tested positive for COVID over the weekend. The sheriff says these are minor cases, and all protocols put in place from the pandemic are being followed.
AUDIO: Their symptoms are light; none of them are in any medical distress or anything. They’ve all been isolated; they’re under treatment of the jail nurses and our jail doctors. None of them have needed to be transported outside the facility for a higher level of care. We have instituted COVID policies, which means that people coming in from the street into the jail are isolated for ten days, before being put into the general population.
The sheriff says the department knows what the protocols are, and are hoping all is cleared up in the next few days.
