Danville Police are going to be participating in a high-visibility crackdown on impaired and unbuckled drivers during the Thanksgiving holiday period. ‘’Holiday traffic brings with it an increased risk of accidents,’’ said Danville Police Commander Terry McCord. He says motorists need to make a conscious choice to buckle-up and plan ahead for a sober ride home.
There were 15 people killed in Illinois traffic accidents during the 2018 Thanksgiving holiday period. And Commander McCord says a third of those deaths resulted from crashes where at least one of the drivers had been drinking.
McCord says Danville Police are partnering with Illinois State Police and local law enforcement across the state on the crackdown. It begins on Friday, November 22nd, and will run through the early morning hours of December 2nd, 2019.
The ‘Click It or Ticket’ and ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ campaigns are funded by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
