THE FOLLOWING IS A DANVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT RELEASE
The Danville Police Department has continued to investigate the death of 3-year-old Kanari Miller of Danville. Danville Police initially responded to the OSF Emergency Room on 01/19/23 around 12:05 am, for a report of a child receiving treatment after falling down a flight of stairs. Medical personnel attempted to provide treatment to Kanari, but she was unresponsive and pronounced deceased. Detectives immediately began investigating the incident and interviewed the family members who had brought Kanari to the hospital. Detectives and the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigators executed a court ordered search warrant at Kanari’s residence and collected evidence from the scene.
An autopsy was conducted and the preliminary cause of death was ruled,“Multiple blunt injuries due to child abuse”. Medically it has been determined that the injuries sustained by Kanari were not consistent with the explanation of how they occurred and the specific injuries she sustained would not occur as a result of falling down stairs. The details about those specific injuries are not being released publicly to protect the integrity of the investigation and this case is being treated as a homicide. The Danville Police Department along with the Illinois State Police and Vermilion County Coroner’s Office are continuing with the investigation into this incident and no other information is being released at this time.
