Danville High School’s Future Problem Solvers welcomed students from high schools all over Vermilion County to their Youth Leadership Conference Monday morning at Danville Area Community College. Numerous local dignitaries and state legislators attended, as the the Future Problem Solvers looked to share and expand upon their mission for this school year. That mission is Project L.E.N.S; with “LENS” being an acronym for “Locally Elevating our Neighborhood and Schools.”

The mission this year has been about promoting the benefits and opportunities found in our communities and schools, as well as showing appreciation for the teachers and school personnel that make it possible. DHS Faculty Advisor Lori Woods said sharing this mission with other students, and allowing the students to take part in roundtable forums with those in attendance, made it a successful morning for this year, and hopefully on an annual basis.

AUDIO: We think in terms of sharing a project and its goals, since they’re always community issues, that this is a good way to address those issues with a larger audience. So we’re hoping that this will work, and get some interest to start building this with kids.
DHS Future Problem Solvers member Gavin Baugh liked what he was seeing.
AUDIO: It’s going really well. I’ve actually sat in on some discussions. It’s really great to hear from other schools on social things that have been going on.
And DHS Future Problem Solver Isaiah Easton said it was great for Future Problem Solvers to be able to do something like this again.
AUDIO: For the past few years we haven’t picked it up, because of COVID. But, yes, I feel like if we can do this every year, I think it would be a great addition to both Future Problem Solvers as a program; and it would be a great opportunity for other schools to come and talk about the issues.
The event was dedicated to the late State Senator Scott Bennett. His successor Paul Faraci was in attendance.
