Thursday afternoon’s (Feb 23) Black History Month Assembly at Danville High School brought a mixture of music, history, and inspirational speeches. DHS principal Ms. Cherry said it was all the result of about three months of planning, with lots of bi-weekly meetings with involved students.
AUDIO: And we’ve even brought back some alumni. We just want to celebrate our DHS students, our students who have been here in the past, and all of the great things they’re doing. But we also want our students to learn something from this event.
One of the speakers was Black Student Union president Theory Steen. Ms. Cherry said it was great to see her be part of the ceremony.

AUDIO: She’s one of our more quiet students. And I think that’s why the Black Student Union has been very instrumental in helping her to come out of her shell; and to be able to stand up there today and to speak in front of all her peers.
Ms. Cherry will be retiring at the end of this school year, being replaced as DHS principal by Jacob Bretz.
