The Vermilion County Fair Board says it has no intentions of selling the land where it hosts its annual fair. During a meeting of the Vermilion County Board Tuesday night local businessman Frank Wright outlined a proposal to place a sports park on the property.
Wright said his family wants to bring racing ‘’back to its glory’’, and add other year-round activities including remote controlled slot car racing and a go-cart track. There would also be a hobby shop and other activities under the proposal from the Wright family.
The Vermilion County Fair Board says, though, that its land is not for sale.
The Fair Board says Mr. Wright has some great ideas for the community, adding there must have been some confusion about who owns the land since the proposal was outlined before the Vermilion County Board. ‘’Our deed states, if a fair is hosted annually, the grounds belong to the fair. As plans for the 2023 fair are fully in motion there is no intention of selling our land now or in the near future,’’ said a statement from the Fair Board.
The Vermilion County Fair Board added that it invites Mr. Wright to attend their meetings and consider becoming a member. ‘’Together, we can not only continue to grow the success of our fair but provide even more for our community,’’ the statement added.
This year’s Vermilion County Fair is set for June 6th through the 10th.
