While the Danville school board has not officially thrown its support behind a proposed one-percent sales tax increase, District 118 teachers are supporting it.
Danville Education Association President Derrice Hightower says the teachers union is urging voters to approve the sales tax referendum during the upcoming primary election…
{”As a union, we feel we need to stick with our unions that are around us, and this could only help us,”} said Hightower during a Danville School Board meeting Wednesday evening.
Hightower said she would like to see the air conditioning problems fixed at Southview Upper Elementary School as well as a resurfaced parking lot at Danville High School. She said Danville schools need to look as good as those in neighboring counties.
The one-percent sales tax would be applied to all of Vermilion County. Money would be used for school facility purposes, school resource officers and mental health professionals. Election Day is Tuesday, March 17th.
