An April 9th sentencing date is set for a Hoopeston man who was convicted on charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Gary Johnson faces a potential sentence ranging from probation to five years in prison.
According to evidence in the case, Johnson was passed-out drunk in a chair when his brother let a neighbor who wanted to borrow some sugar into the house. Shortly thereafter, Johnson awakened and knocked the cup of sugar from the victim’s hand. When the victim turned around to confront Johnson, he had dropped his pants and was threatening to sexually assault her – according to testimony. Johnson then slashed the female’s ear and shoulder with a pair of scissors.
Hoopeston Police found the victim bleeding from her wounds when they arrived on May 7th, 2018. Police say they found Johnson passed-out drunk in a living-room chair with the scissors in his possession.
