Motorists traveling along Interstate 74 in the Danville area will need to use caution for the next few months because of some major construction work. The Illinois Department of Transportation says $63.5 million dollars worth of improvements will be made in the area of Interstate 74 stretching from U.S. 150 west of Danville to the Vermilion River. The work is beginning on Monday, April 3rd (weather permitting).
Included in the project is pavement and shoulder replacement, resurfacing and rehabilitation to multiple structures, pavement patching, drainage and lighting improvements, along with other work.
The project will require intermittent lane and ramp closures, along with traffic flow modifications on I-74 for the duration of the project. The work is expected to last two construction seasons through November of next year (2024).
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered according to IDOT (Illinois Department of Transportation).
Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
