Time is running out for people who want to vote early for Tuesday’s consolidated election. Both the Danville Election Commission and Vermilion County Clerk offices will be open Saturday morning and Monday for early voting. And voters will also be able to vote at those offices on Election Day.
Sandy Delhaye, Executive Director of the Danville Election Commission, says 550 people had voted at her office and 663 of the 1,071 ballots her office mailed out had been returned.
Delhaye thinks the overall turnout will be pretty good because of contested races. She expects the turnout to be 25 to 30 percent of all eligible voters. The City Election Commission office will be open from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday, April 1st, and the County Clerk’s office will be open Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon. As she encouraged people to vote, County Clerk Cathy Jenkins quipped – “Come out and vote so you can complain intelligently.” Jenkins noted voters have had plenty of opportunities to vote. But she added the turnout of early voters in her office has been slow.
Jenkins said there had been about 200 early votes cast in her office by midday Friday, and about 650 ballots had been cast by mail. Voters living anywhere in Vermilion County except Danville can vote at the County Clerk’s office on Election Day if they wish. If you live in Danville, in addition to your normal polling place you can also vote at the Danville Election Commission office on Tuesday if you wish. Both offices are located at the Joseph G. Cannon Office Building at 201 North Vermilion in Danville.
Delhaye says the voter turnout in Danville’s last mayoral election was 26-percent in 2019. She and Jenkins both said if voters are not sure where they should vote they can call their offices to find out.
