The Danville City Council’s Public Works Committee is recommending approval of a nearly $900-thousand dollar contract for improvements along a downtown street. Mayor Scott Eisenhauer describes the work that is being proposed along South Street, from Main to Jackson Streets. ‘’Certainly putting in new paving,’’ says the Mayor. ‘’Also doing some road dieting. Right now it is five lanes across, (and) we would like to get that down to three. We would also like to – and what has been incorporated in this plan – is a specific drop-off area directly in front of the Arena. Right now you have to stop in a lane of traffic. This will actually incorporate a designated drop-off area in front of the Arena,’’ said the Mayor.
Mayor Eisenhauer notes there is occasionally heavy pedestrian traffic in front of the Palmer Arena. ‘’The whole idea is to not only re-pave but to also make it far more pedestrian and vehicular safe than it is today,’’ added the Mayor.
The project includes putting in new LED lighting and replacement of some deteriorated concrete medians. Feutz Contractors of Paris submitted the low bid of just over $896,500. If the Danville City Council approves the contract the work is expected to be done by the end of this year.
