ABOVE: VA Illiana Health Care Employee Whole Health Coordinator Maggie Verklan, Voluntary Service Specialist Aaron Cain, and Acting Danville VA Medical Center Executive Director Jon Beidelschies unveil a local fundraising goal for the VA2K homeless Veterans campaign.
A special month has just begun over at VA Illiana Health Care. VA2K is a nationwide month-long event to support homeless Veterans. Your donations can help those who have served our country with shelter and healthy living. On the grounds of the VA Illiana Health Care Danville VA Medical Center Monday (April 17th) morning, there was an outdoor unveiling right near the gazebo of this year’s local fundraising goal, with an amount of $1,200 right at the top.
The VA Medical Center’s Acting Executive Director, filling in right now for Dr. Staci Williams, is Jon Beidelschies. He says this effort is picking up momentum once again, coming out of the pandemic.
AUDIO: VA2K has been an event that’s been an important part of the fabric of VAs for a number of years. And we had lost a little bit of that with COVID.
Employee Whole Health Coordinator Maggie Verklan says Veterans needing homes, as well as personal comfort items, will benefit from this special month.
AUDIO: These funds are distributed on an as needed basis through the CDCE (Center for Development and Civic Engagement) and in partnership with the homeless team. Veterans that are housed will also receive at times cleaning products and things like that.
Voluntary Service Specialist Aaron Cain agreed.
AUDIO: These donations go to help feed homeless Vets, or Vets that are on the brink of homelessness; and looking for resources and some extra support.
Donations will be taken through May 17th. You can go directly to the Center for Development and Civic Engagement site at www.cdceportal.va.gov, or you can also stop by in person at the Danville VA Medical Center, Building 104, Room 116; to make your donation to VA Illiana Health Care’s VA2K campaign for homeless Veterans.
