Republican State Representative candidate Mike Marron says it’s time to start building a new Illinois. Marron announced his candidacy Tuesday at his Royal area farm. He says the state’s first priority should be paying the backlog of unpaid bills.
Marron noted Illinois once had a political tradition that ‘’was second to none’’, since it was the home of Abraham Lincoln and birthplace of Ronald Reagan.
‘’The story took a wrong turn, and that’s where we find ourselves today – in the middle of an economic, fiscal and political crisis,’’ said Marron as he addressed the crowd at his farm Tuesday. ‘’So it’s time for renewal. It’s time to start again. It’s time to start building a new Illinois, and start a new story – a new chapter to the story that was once told.’’
And during an interview with VermilionCountyFirst.com News on his family farm, Marron explained why he decided to seek the seat currently held by State Representative Chad Hays.
‘’Well, you know public service has always been a passion of mine. And, you know, I think now – particularly now when times are challenging and things look bleak, I think it’s time for people to step up, and to show leadership. And I feel like I’ve got some ability and maybe some talents that I can bring, and at least try to start moving things in the right direction. So, I really feel it’s my duty to step up in this regard,’’ said Marron.
Representative Hays had announced earlier that he would not seek re-election next year.
Speaking to supporters from Vermilion and Champaign counties at his farm Tuesday Marron added agriculture is Illinois’ greatest strength. But he says the state needs to pass farm friendly legislation and upgrade its transportation infrastructure. However Marron noted that cannot be done until the state gets back on sound fiscal ground.
Marron has served as the Chairman of the Vermilion County Board for the past two terms. He and his family operate a farm in western Vermilion County.
