Danville Mayor Scott Eisenhauer says the city is making progress in its battle against crime. The Mayor told a gathering of business owners and others Wednesday that supplemental police patrols and concentrating on hot spots has helped.
The Mayor says one area where citations are up is curfew violations. ‘’In fact we have already tripled the number of tickets that we wrote last summer,’’ says the Mayor. ‘’Not only are we writing the juveniles who are out beyond the curfew hour a ticket for violating our ordinance, but in many cases we’ve also been writing a Parental Responsibility Ticket as well – which means the parents also need to step-up and take responsibility and accountability for their children and not allow them to be out after curfew.’’
Sweeps by the Police POP Unit – the Problem Oriented Policing Unit – are also up, according to the Mayor. ‘’In fact, they’ve made over 200 arrests in the last 135 days. That’s because they have become very pro-active in their efforts – very aggressive in their efforts, and I think that has really set a tone for the summer as well,’’ said Eisenhauer during an interview with VermilionCountyFirst.com News. ‘’We’re doing a lot of sweeps – a lot of raids this year. And that’s going to continue throughout the summer and into the fall.’’
The Mayor told business owners they can help by reporting suspicious activity they see, and by placing video monitors outside their stores. Local residents can also report crime or suspicious activity anonymously by using the ‘Our Danville’ app on their iPhone or Android devices.
