Schlarman Academy’s South Campus had their annual 3rd grade wax museum on Friday (April 28th), where they choose an historic figure, create a presentation, and come to life just like a wax museum figure, all dressed up to make their presentations. Third grade teacher Laurie Sermershime says the students may need a little help getting started, but they usually take over.
AUDIO: They had some guidelines and some different things and information that they were required to find. But then they were able to do fun facts, things that interested them; why were they interested in this person. So absolutely, we were guiding it, but they were the ones flying with it too.

And this year, there was a huge surprise. Student Weston Latoz dressed up as former Major League Baseball player Darrin Fletcher, an Oakwood High School graduate. And sure enough, shortly after the wax museum opened in the school gym, Darrin Fletcher stopped by for a visit. We talked with Weston about it afterwards.
AUDIO: (We you surprised Darrin Fletcher came? Did you know he was coming?) No I did not. (When he showed up, what was your reaction?) Surprised. (Did he tell you if you had everything right? What did he say to you?) He said I had everything right.

Other local figures were featured as well. Archie Billings dressed up as Dick Van Dyke, playing Bert the Chimney Sweep in Mary Poppins.
AUDIO: It’s my favorite movie that he was in. And he was in it, so I really wanted to do this one; because it looked really good and I liked it the most out of them all.

And also, Sully Rolnicki as Schlarman High School graduate and Green Bay Packer Zeke Bratkowski; whom his grandfather had met one time out on the links.
AUDIO: Because my grandpa had played golf with him. He met him at a golf tournament.
