The first partial day of attendance for students attending Danville District 118 Schools is August 21st. And with that in mind, crews are rushing to finish some improvements being made in local schools this summer.
Dr. Alicia Geddis, the District 118 Superintendent, says there are a lot of projects underway. ‘’I’m sure everyone has seen the project for the Edison (Elementary School) rebuild with the ramp, etcetera. At Danville High School the windows look great. Inside there’s a substantial amount of work being done,’’ says Geddis. ‘’On the second and third floor there is significant painting in the hallways, and so you’ll notice we had to take some of the paintings down to paint the walls. Please rest assured that all of our historic pictures still remain. None of those have been disturbed,’’ added the Superintendent.
Some other projects include a new roof at Southwest Elementary School, improvements to some classrooms at North Ridge Middle School, and upgrades to the driveway at North East Elementary Magnet School.
District 118 Buildings and Grounds Director Skip Truex says HVAC upgrades to the 1924 addition at Danville High School should make things much more comfortable for students and staff while also being more efficient. He says lighting has also been upgraded in some areas of Danville High, including the gymnasium and cafeteria areas.
Meanwhile, Dr. Geddis says it is going to be close, but sidewalk and other improvements being made outside Danville High School are expected to be done before school opens. That includes some work around the Jackson and Fairchild Street intersection.
