Danville School Board members hired nine new employees during a special session Wednesday afternoon. The board also approved some changes in positions as it prepares for the opening of school later this month.
Meanwhile Danville’s public schools – like other districts in our area – are waiting to see what is going to happen with school funding in Springfield.
Danville Superintendent Alicia Geddis says the State owes the Danville District around $4-million dollars. ‘’Luckily the Board has always been very financially conservative, and because of that we enjoy a financial reserve. We will have to dip into that reserve to keep us afloat until the legislators come to an agreement and release the money to the schools,’’ says Geddis.
Dr. Geddis hopes lawmakers and the Governor can get the school funding issues resolved quickly. ‘’Because it’s never a deal for a school district to begin to operate on the reserves,’’ said Geddis. ‘’And we only have about 90 days, so we need something to be done quickly.’’
Dr. Geddis is not alone in her concerns. Other school districts all over our area, and all over Illinois, are anxious to get state funds flowing.
