It is check-in day (Friday) for items that will be on display for this year’s Georgetown Fair. Scott Davis, a member of the fair board, says the fair will officially kick-off with events on Saturday. ‘’On Saturday we’ll do an Overweight Horse-Pull, which was a new event last year. It is really something. Those old work horses from the old days – they are awesome,’’ says Davis.
‘’Sunday night we’ll have the Exalt Worship Experience in front of the grandstand. And then on Monday we really start the traditional stuff with a Queen Pageant, Tuesday’s Talent Show, Wednesday and Thursday are a pair of Tractor Pulls, and Friday we’re bringing back an old favorite – the Rodeo, on Friday, August 11th, — we haven’t had one of those for probably fifteen years, so we’re pretty excited about that. And then, of course, we take the fair out with a bang with a Demolition Derby on Saturday the 12th.’’
Davis notes the fair will again have some outstanding carnival rides. ‘’We’re very fortunate. We’ve got a great carnival organization, Luehrs’ Ideal Rides. They do a fantastic job. They’re just great folks to work with,’’ says Davis. ‘’Their rides are first class. The comments last year after the fair – some said it’s almost like going to a mini amusement park. You still have to keep in mind it is still a community festival – a county fair, but we’re very fortunate to have a great organization to work with.’’
In addition to the grandstand attractions the fair will again be ‘Showcasing’ free entertainment all week long. Georgetown has hosted a fair since 1938.
