Illinois State Comptroller Susana Mendoza is taking issue with a statement made by Governor Bruce Rauner during an interview with VermilionCountyFirst.com News. The Governor had said during Thursday’s interview that Comptroller Mendoza is not prioritizing categorical payments from the State of Illinois.
‘’Despite Governor Rauner’s manufactured budget crisis, our office prioritized putting together $429 million dollars last month to make a delayed categorical payment to schools around the state,’’ says Mendoza. She also noted the state’s checkbook balance, as of July 27th, was only $254-million dollars. Mendoza says the Governor has not left enough money in the state’s accounts for another categorical payment to happen again soon.
‘’Falsely blaming our office for not making payments from a bank account he emptied is like a check-bouncer blaming the bank for bouncing his check,’’ added Comptroller Mendoza.
