It’s almost time for the Vermilion County Fair; set for Tuesday June 6th through Saturday the 10th out at the Fairgrounds. During the Fair Board’s final meeting before the fair, this past Monday evening May 8th, a commitment was made to have some extra free attractions, such as additional bounce houses and more, to give families some extra things to look forward to when the carnival’s a little crowded, or they just need a change of pace. Fair Board Treasurer Sherry Decker gave us some examples.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: You pay seven dollars to get in the gate. After that, all rides are free. The bounce houses are free. There’s a gentleman that’s doing what we call “Family Feud,” and he’ll have two or three shows every evening that you can go to that are free.
Vermilion County Fair Board meets Monday, May 8th; preparing for June’s Vermilion County Fair.
Face painting will be back in the vendor building as well. As for the grandstands, the traditional beauty pageant will be Tuesday night, a free farm tractor pull will be Friday night, and then there’s a special Remote Control Racing event set for Thursday. Germantown Raceway’s Mike Pollitt says they’re going to build a temporary 1/10th mile dirt track, welcome six different classes; and you just might have a chance to win a trophy donated by Kenny Wallace.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: Outlaw Sprints, they’re going to be 1/10th buggy scale cars. Pro Slash, Street Stock, 13.5 B Mod, Novice, and Stock Slash. And anyone with a car that has My Lap scoring can come and join in with us.

Pollitt says get out to Germantown Raceway on Sundays and practice, for what they’re calling the VCS 50.
As for the story from a while back about Frank Wright wanting to purchase the fairgrounds from the state and bring back weekly auto racing from years past, Wright says the financial records that were presented to him during the May 8th meeting were not all of what he requested. Wright says he’s filed a FOIA request to get what he calls “more than just tax records.”
Audio PlayerAUDIO: You know the expenditures; the employees’ w-2s; their records for what they’ve paid out, you know, for all the things; and the money that came in. The tax records don’t show anything close to that.
Frank Wright states his position at recent Vermilion Co Fair Board meeting.
Treasurer Sherry Decker says the Vermilion County Fair Board is a 501C-3, and any additional financial information Wright would desire is available through the IRS web site. Decker says seven years of tax returns and financial statements along with them, plus the Fair Board’s bylaws, have been provided. Decker also says, Wright’s motives do not make much sense to her.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: He did make a public statement. He did it at the County meeting. He’s done it on social media and, whatever. He’s never made a proposal to the fair, ever; nothing.
But back to the main point, the Vermilion County Fair is almost here; once again; Tuesday, June 6th through Saturday, June 10th. And don’t forget the Thursday night RC Racing.
