The team at Vermilion Advantage Economic Development Corporation is keeping busy working on 13 active projects. That’s the word from Vickie Haugen, President of Vermilion Advantage. ‘’Two of those are new outside manufacturing projects. One is an existing manufacturing expansion project, an existing distribution expansion project – in addition to, as you well know, AutoZone has a 150-thousand square foot expansion underway that when completed next March will add 150 people to their employment base of over 400.’’
Haugen also told the Danville City Council that there are other projects in the works. ‘’We have two professional project expansions which are very exciting to me,’’ says Haugen. ‘’(And there are) three new retail developments for the city (and) one renewable energy project that we’re working on. And we also have two retail development projects looking at the Oakwood area,’’ added Haugen. ‘’And then, of course, the Marriott Town Suite Place which is under construction right now (in the Lynch Road area).’’
And Haugen noted there are 21 employers who have 58 positions currently posted on a county jobs board. Vermilion Advantage also started something new this year – a jobs board for youth. And Vermilion Advantage is also working in other areas, including trying to help address a teacher shortage.
